Cultural Research Essay

Is the bus really bad or is it just all in the mind?

Whenever you hear about world culture the first thing that come’s might be the culture related to that of your bloodline or history like the culture of being Mexican or Japanese, but it’s actually more broader than that. Culture can be a number of things, maybe a favorite type of show could be a culture of that show specifically. Also, aspects of life like the gym can be seen as culture as well, as well as gaming culture. However the culture i will be talking about is bus culture and how it can be bad , in certain ways.

Here in New York there are multiple ways you can travel around the city whether it be by bike or by car or by train or even the bus and for all four of those things there is some culture behind it. For example car culture is like a way your vehicle looks or feels and how it actually works and for the train there are a lot of negative things talked about trains because of all the crazy stuff that happens on the train. However, the bus is a different story since it feels as though the bus is just given a negative connotation to it even though it might not even be that at all. For example, whenever you hop on the bus it sometimes it’s just a free space to just sit or stand until you have to get to your destination but sometimes the people in the bus can get a little crazy at times and can get very verbally violent but sometimes it might be for a good reason at times. Whenever I’m on the bus and here people screaming or yelling, it is usually to help someone out because maybe some is doing something that they shouldn’t be or just trying to help out someone that needs it. In a way this could be seen as a way of bringing about community within the bus since usually people tend to mind their own business at times but if they see something they know is wrong it can be seen as a way of how they are trying to help. It can also just be the feeling of riding a bus since it can be a time to reflect and really see how things are in a different perspective. There was a person named “ Savitha Kartha “ and she talks about how riding the bus is a beautiful thing because it allows her to think and really cherish what she is seeing outside of said window. There was even times where people would just voluntarily avoid riding the bus because of how it was viewed as thing that only old people would ride and that also ties down to the code of morals because its rule that if someone with a wheelchair gets on the bus you have to give up the seats in the front for them and for some people they know it’s good to do that but sometimes their inner thoughts can come out and start screaming like “OMGGGG” or like “ I’M GONNA BE LATE NOW” but things like this can be annoying but we can’t just overlook why we needed to stop. However, people do come to pretty much back up that person since he needs the help and everyone is seeing it as if that person being in a wheelchair is a bad thing and that’s something i feel like everyone should be like on the bus helpful and respectful of those around, don’t just get on the bus all pissed and put that on others. I’ve had certain things like this happen once i stepped on this guy’s foot by mistake and i said sorry but he proceeded to just push me because of it and instead of just retaliating and pushing him back like i should’ve i just let it go.

I also would like to believe that the only reason why the bus is the way it is is because of its location. You see in new york city specifically i feel like its given a negative view because of the way people act and the way they behave in its locations cause here in new york i feel like people’s patience level is very low because in other places i know that people are nice to those around them and they try and make sure that they feel welcomed at times as well. I know because there is times that people knew to whole bus thing try to make sure they where they are going because of the fact that they don’t want to be lost and go somewhere unannounced but sometimes people get to concerned and ignore them because they don’t want to be bothered  while there is other people who will try their best to help them out because they would like to give help they wish they could get id they were on the opposite end. Its sometimes hard to ask for help because you never know how someone can react or behave because of the way you approached them.

I also think that the bus is seen the way it is because of the way it looks, it can be dirty at times and honestly unbearable. But its things like this that can be changed by how the people try to help the change as well.

However, these are my thoughts on this whole idea of bus culture hear in new york because i take the bus everyday and hope when people get on this but their not in a mood the can jeopardize others because the community of the bus varies some are untied by a morale code of helping those around where others just don’t care when instead we can just get along and get on with are day.

There is more I want to add more  but I’ve been having trouble with choosing a culture and how I can interpret it.
